Hope Central Team

A small Central Support Team works closely with the Hope Learning Trust schools to offer support with day-to-day operations, finance, human resources and school improvement. It also implements strategic decisions agreed by the Trustees.

Brian Crosby is Chief Executive and Executive Principal – Secondary on the trust board. Brian started his career as a science teacher at Selby High School and became Head of Science at Archbishop Holgate’s School in York before promotion to Assistant Headteacher in charge of Curriculum. He was appointed Headteacher of Manor CE School in 2002 before moving to become Chief Executive of Hope Learning Trust in 2016. Brian is a National Leader of Education and Manor is a National Support School and achieved Teaching School status in 2012. Brian has worked closely with the National College for Teaching and Leadership and the National Society of the Church of England.

Jerri Ryder joined Hope Learning Trust in September 2017 as Executive Assistant. She holds a BA (Hons) from Open University and a PGCE from Sunderland University. Jerri is an experienced PA/Administrator as well as a qualified Primary school teacher. She has worked in education since 2003, first in the Isle of Man, and more recently in Paris and Zambia. She recently returned to live in Yorkshire with her husband, John. Jerri has two children, both currently at University.


Simon Bryan-Smith has worked within finance and forecasting in different organisations and roles across various business sectors since 1998. Qualifying through the CIMA accountancy route in 2007 Simon accepted the role of Finance Director at the Leeds based charity Caring For Life taking the charity through a period of considerable change. A 2 year contract with Defra followed before taking on the role in Manor CE School just before academy conversion in 2011.

Emma Lawer joined Hope Learning Trust in October 2017 as HR Director.

Chris is the HR Officer for the Trust. For the last 14 years Chris has worked for Wakefield Metropolitan District Council supporting schools and services. Chris has a Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management and a BSc (Hons) in Psychology.


Sara Simpson is Schools Finance Manager at Hope Learning Trust based at Manor CE Academy. Sara started her career in Education as Finance Officer at Longcroft Performing Arts School in Beverley and became Assistant School Business Manager at Headlands School & Performing Arts School before seeking progression to School Bursar at Manor CE School in 2009. Sara was awarded the Diploma in School Business Management from National College in 2011 and has been promoted to Finance Manager/Business Manager of Hope Learning Trust in 2016.


Tania deals with all the Purchase ledger duties for the Trust and is responsible for payments and bank reconciliation for all schools within the Trust. Tania has a vast amount of experience working within Accounting from Military, Private Hospital, Construction to IT software company and holds Qualified Association of Accounting Technician – Level 4.


Margarita is the Purchase Ledger Clerk for all schools within the Trust and has a Level III Diploma in Manual and Computerised Bookkeeping and is a Member of The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers. Before joining the Trust Margarita spent over 10 years’ working in a biotech company where she managed purchase and sales ledgers.
